JOB DESCRIPTION

Title: Mechanical Engineer

Reports to: Engineering Manager

SUMMARY OF ROLE

The Mechanical Engineer plays a key role in supporting manufacturing operations through the design, development, and improvement of equipment, tooling, and mechanical systems. This position focuses on enhancing production efficiency, product quality, and safety within injection molding and assembly processes. The Mechanical Engineer collaborates closely with cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement, troubleshoot mechanical challenges, and implement innovative solutions that align with Westfall Technik’s commitment to excellence and precision manufacturing.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design, develop, and optimize, manufacturing processes, mechanical components, tooling, fixtures, and equipment for injection molding and assembly operations.
  • Support new product introductions and equipment validation activities, including IQ/OQ/PQ documentation when required.
  • Provide technical support for troubleshooting mechanical, tooling, or automation issues on the production floor.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and lead corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to resolve mechanical or process failures.
  • Develop and maintain accurate mechanical drawings, models, and BOMs using CAD software (SolidWorks preferred).
  • Lead or contribute to continuous improvement projects focused on reducing downtime, improving cycle time, and enhancing quality.
  • Collaborate with tooling engineers and external vendors to support mold maintenance, repairs, and modifications.
  • Participate in Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) projects, including equipment specification, vendor selection, and installation oversight.
  • Ensure designs and processes comply with Westfall Technik standards, ISO 13485, and FDA 21 CFR 820 requirements.
  • Mentor or guide junior engineers or technicians as needed on project-related tasks or best practices.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field required.
  • 4–7 years of engineering experience in plastics manufacturing, injection molding, or medical device production REQUIRED.
  • Proficiency in CAD design (SolidWorks preferred) and familiarity with GD&T principles.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience applying lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methods.
  • Knowledge of tooling, automation, and mechanical system integration.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment is usually in an office within a manufacturing facility with low to moderate noise levels. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
